Congratulations to Jody Victor® on being inducted into the
Greater Akron Baseball Hall of Fame.
Your financial support in making Crown Field become a
reality is greatly appreciated! It's become our own
Field of Dreams!
Jody grew up in Cuyahoga Falls, OH and was an All-Star 2nd Baseman.
He was passionate about baseball and played at all levels until his college years.
After college and time in the Army, Jody returned to Akron, OH and launched his own business with the same passion he had for baseball. He built his new home in the Manchester area and his three children all grew up there.
In 1981 Jerry Vance approached Mr. Victor for a site to build a field for the Manchester As. The As had no Home Field and played all of their games on the road. Jerry sold Jody a DREAM! The property was a swampy area no one wanted to use. Jody met with Marco Burnette the Superintendent of the Manchester School system and acquired the rights to this ordinary piece of property behind the Manchester Middle School. Then the construction began. Jody financed the beginning, middle and end along with the help of so many others who volunteered whatever they could. The following May Crown Field was dedicated and the community was the benefit of a DREAM come true. Jody was presented with a bronze bust as a special tribute by the community of Manchester. Jody's two sons Steve and Joe would later play on Crown Field.
Many youngsters near and far would play on this Field of Dreams called Crown Field named for the accomplishment of Jody's business. Jody Victor® made sure Crown Field would be a success. He is quick to name three special people who committed to this Dream: Jerry Vance, Bill Round and Kevin Dunn. It was a Team effort. Each one played a role and they supported one another for the success of the ball players.
The success of Crown Field has received National acclaim as Jody Victor® has given presentations around the world to millions of people describing the Vision and Dream of Crown Field. The project's objective was clearly for the youth of Manchester and the pride of the community. Many were recognized for their attitudes for conduct on and off the field. It was a special honor and privilege for the young ball players to earn the right to play on Crown Field. The Manchester As raised organized baseball to a whole new level in the Akron area.
Jody unselfishly gave of himself to provide an opportunity for the youth. From the building of Crown Field to the sponsoring of many Teams, purchasing uniforms, equipment and providing all of the tools for a winning spirit. Many players would go onto a college education with a baseball scholarship. Some would move on into the minor and major leagues. All who played left the field with a better image of themselves and knew more about a great sport.
A Dream come true: Crown Field was the back drop and symbol for what can happen when many work for the betterment of all. Jody Victor® is very proud that he could be a part of a winning experience for so many.
